Last year, I reviewed ASUS ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 5 on this space and it was only 1-2GB RAM then. Earlier this year, ASUS created a trend in the market releasing the first smartphone in the world equipped with 4GB of RAM and we just went a little bonkers.

The time to unbox dawned upon us once again. This time, we are unboxing the ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser.

The ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is incredibly thin measuring only 3.9mm but offers an ergonomic design that gives a good grip on my hand. I’d probably describe this as “the feels,” which the youth these days refer more to “emotions.” The curved back helps the grip and my small index finger can naturally adjust the volume without any strain and serve as my selfie key. Its trademark concentric circle design with spin pitch of only 0.13mm complements the hairline metallic finish in the back cover. I have an iPhone 6 and if not for the pseudo-leather cover, I would’ve probably dropped my phone easily many times due to the flat and slippery surface.

After the “feels,” I would normally wipe the screen since my fingerprints would be all over it. ZenFone 2 Laser has a 20nm anti-fingerprints layer on its cover glass which makes sliding and swiping the phone prints-free! Other than the special coating, ASUS ZenFone 2 has TruVivid Technology that only needs 2 layers of the sensor glass and air gap which minimizes the reflection on your screen and maximizes clarity and brightness.
Since we are in the touchy subject (so much feels gosh), one of the key improvements of this new phone is its touch-response time of just 60 millisecond. Normal phones go for 80 or 100 millisecond in response time and in the culture of “NOW” and 1GB broadband speeds coming out in the market, every milli-friggin’ second counts. You have pressed the elevator button more than once in your life because you just couldn’t wait right? For gamers (no no I’m not talking to you Clash of Clan addicts), this is of critical importance. No lag feeling while clicking on icons and dragging items on the screen. That should improve your game skills.
Gamers, listen up. ZenFone 2 Laser also provides you with smooth performance without the overheating. Navigation through the phone’s menu, editing photos/videos, launching apps and switching between them are no problem at all. But even if you are playing heavy games like Dead Trigger, Asphalt 8, notice that you won’t encounter frame drops or heating issues. Yep, just good gaming performance. Thumbs up yo!

One of the relevant functions I look for is also sound performance. Nowadays, our phones are not only used for calls, texts, surfing, gaming or capturing moments, I use mine heavily for music. Sound tripping at any given time of the day helps ease hard-knocking moments or just give a sweet background to a moment I’d like to cherish.
ZenFone 2 Laser phones are constructed with five layers of magnets in a large chamber that gives a more resounding bass sound and sound is generally clearer with 41% increase in volume.
Okay, the most important function these days – camera. No other smartphones within the same price range can offer 8-MP camera on the back guided with a laser auto-focus. That’s the problem of smartphones these days at a certain price level, focus. ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser equips you with a f/2.0 aperture Toshiba lens that focuses on the subject in a snap and delivers shots with excellent detail. Saturation and contrast levels are at an optimal point in day-light conditions. The 0.3 second Laser Auto Focus is the technology that sets this phone apart as it gives clarity with infrared laser measuring distances at lightning speed. The laser auto-focus even accelerates close-up photography, compensating for the extra distance created by the lens receding during framing.
